Falkland Farms is a 7673 acre contiguous tract of land located on the eastern edge of Halifax County, Virginia. Bordering Kerr Reservoir, the farm is located on a peninsula of land formed by the rivers of the Dan, Banister, and Staunton. Five streams give the area the nickname of the "Falks" and the namesake of the farm. Falkland Farms encompasses twelve square miles of land with gently rolling to moderate topography Falkland Farms was first acquired in the early 1900's by Col. Ira Vaughan. He purchased over 40 individual farms to create the largest single tract of privately held land in Virginia to be used as his private hunting preserve. Occoneechee State Park Occoneechee State Park is on Virginia’s largest lake, Buggs Island Lake, also known as John H. Kerr Reservoir. The park features 18.1 miles of trails that allow the guest to experience the history of the Occoneechee Indians and plantation life in the 1800s. John H. Kerr Dam and Reservoir The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates this 50,000 acre reservoir and an additional 50,000 acres of surrounding land. In the 1950's, Kerr Reservoir, also called Buggs Island Lake, was constructed primarily to provide for flood control and hydropower generation. The 900 miles of wooded shoreline stretch across three counties in Virginia and three in North Carolina. Along this shoreline you can find opportunities to boat, fish, camp, swim, picnic, hike, and hunt.
